Spring and preparation

Spring is a season of rebirth-an opportunity for growth. We wait for the tulips to blossom, our trees to flower and the grass to grow and unfortunately, with the recent weather, it has been a challenge. But if we don’t take the necessary steps to prepare and fertilize the soil in fall, remove all of the dead leaves and provide adequate amounts of water, the results we wait for may not be as beautiful as we had hoped. This is how God views Stewardship and the support of our parish. Through Stewardship, we prepare ourselves for salvation and the opportunity to enter into the Kingdom of God and eternal life. If eternity is a fully blooming and beautiful flower, then Stewardship is the preparation. There are many opportunities for us to provide of our Time, Talents and Treasures – but let’s not wait until the weeds have overtaken our garden.
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”  Citing the Old Testament  (Deuteronomy 11:13, 13:3) Jesus then said, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment,” the Lord continued.  “And a second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  Upon these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:36-40)  Again, if there is a Law of Christ, it is the Law of Love! Once this is understood, all else should fall more easily into place.
