When we think about Stewardship, Care extends beyond the financials. Our faith must be a priority. I recently attended a seminar where Father Maximos from Simonopetra Monastery discussed the Word of God. What left an indelible realization was his description of the way we read and what we do when we are finished. Once we have completed the newspaper, we throw it away and treat it as garbage, however, if we receive a letter from a loved one or a long lost friend, we cherish it, save it and read it again and again.
What about Scripture? Do we read it on a daily basis? Do we pray before reading the Epistle and Gospel asking God to open our minds to the understanding of His teachings? Do we reflect on what we have read and determine how we can use these lessons in our lives? Do we think about our own sins?
Care for our faith is such a critical step towards Salvation. What a blessing we have with God’s Word. Father Maximos also said that spirituality, our mindset and attitude are all necessary when we read.
The question is will we make God’s Word a priority and include this as part of our Stewardship Care?
