What fruit do you bear?

saint-matthew-the-apostle-evangelist-orthodox-mini-icon-4Matthew 7:15-21

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

What Jesus focuses on is that there are trees that bear good fruit and bad fruit… people that do good works and those who do not provide of their Time, Talents and Treasures or even do bad works.
The key to Salvation is “doing the will of the Father who is in heaven” and this is done through our Stewardship. We find many examples in the Bible where we experience Stewardship …the widow and the three mites… the good Samaritan, the work of the Apostles and others. In God’s eyes, it doesn’t take much but the focus is on doing – getting involved, volunteering, donating clothing, providing a meal for a homeless person, cleaning the exterior of a women’s shelter, creating a care package for the military and supporting your Church with your financial commitment.
